1 Gbps Connections for Dedicated Servers

Every online service needs at least two things: the first is a working server that handles site requests; the second is an Internet connection that connects clients to the server. Here, bandwidth is a pivotal factor: the higher the reserve, the more stable the site. 1 Gbps, for example, is enough to handle sudden spikes in traffic—a typical consequence of a successful ad campaign.

If a client was looking for a faster connection, there were few options. Either they ordered the default plan, which included unlimited traffic and a 100 Mbps connection, and paid separately for additional bandwidth, or they could choose to pay for an expensive guaranteed 1 Gbps connection.

We’re happy to offer our clients another option that combines the best of both worlds: the price of the first option with the speed of the second.

Whereas billing used to be solely based on speed, now users can now choose the plan that best suits their physical servers (colocation, dedicated servers, and custom servers):

  • Billing based on speed – Unlimited 100 Mbps bandwidth
  • Billing based on traffic – 30 TB of traffic per month with an uncapped port speed (1 Gbps or 10 Gbps)

Traffic Models

Unlimited bandwidth is imperative when a site goes viral or updates are released (software updates, game or album releases, etc.).

If your project uses applications that require a lot of traffic, then speed-based billing would be a better option.

Billing Plans
Unlimited Traffic Uncapped bandwidth

  • Uncapped (depends on physical connection)
Traffic
  • Unlimited
  • Varies (per plan)
Included in server cost
  • 100 Mbps bandwidth
  • 30 TB/month of traffic
Additional options
  • Additional bandwidth: 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, or 10 Gbps
  • Monthly 30 TB traffic packages
Appropriate for
  • Predictable and stable traffic
  • Irregular loads
  • Big peaks

Let’s say a client needs more than 100 Mbps of bandwidth. In this case, they can switch to a plan that better suits their needs.

This should come in handy for projects with asymmetrical loads, like when user activity occurs almost exclusively in the morning and evening. This is also useful for projects that experience access problems when capped at 100 Mbps, but that don’t need a constant 1 Gbps connection. This is something you see with online shops during peak seasons or special events like Cyber Monday or Black Friday.

Please note that plans can only be changed once a month.

Local Port Services

Selectel clients can link physical and virtual servers in one or more secure local networks.

There are no limits or restrictions on internal network speeds or traffic; the only limiting factors are port speeds.

Dedicated servers and servers in colocation can be connected from 1 Gb and 10 Gb ports.

Since the launch of these services, we’ve greatly reduced the cost of equipment with 10 Gb support. We’ve additionally lowered the price of our 10 Gb ports for our bare metal services (dedicated servers, colocation, and server racks):

  • 10 GB local port – 1000 rub./month
  • 10 GB MC-LAG local port – 2000 rub./month
